Alpine Angus sells all to $4568 average | The Land, Thursday 2 April 2015
Alpine Angus successfully ran its 12th Annual Sale on 26 March 2015. For the second year running Alpine Angus had a full clearance, selling for an average of $4,568.
Jim Bruce of Elders, selling agents on the day, said the sale serviced a number of price points and markets and that results were reflective of Alpine Angus’s strong local following. “We sold a number [of bulls] at $3,000, so the affordability was there, but then the top end was also there, resulting in a strong average,” Mr Bruce said.
The top price paid was $15,000 for Alpine Jumbo J052, by Ben Mayne of Texas Angus, Warialda. The progeny of Alpine Wilcoola D18 and Coonamble Z3, Alpine Jumbo J052 weighed 840 kilograms, had an eye muscle area (EMA) figure of +6.3 and a 600-day weight figure of +109. This places the bull among the top percentiles for the breed.
The second highest price paid was $7,500 for Alpine Justice J108, bought by Independent Breeding Services, Wangaratta. Other local buyers included R.J. and B.R. Surtees from Nariel Valley, Victoria, and Tom Groggin Station in Corryong.
